Ondo State Police Command arrests two armed robbery suspects and recovered a locally fabricated revolver alongside multiple criminal exhibits during an intelligence-led operation in Akure, authorities announced on Friday.
Operatives from the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit spearheaded the breakthrough after surveilling criminal syndicates operating across the Ondo State capital.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the development in an official security statement released to news correspondents in Akure.
Jimoh identified the apprehended suspects as 35-year-old Isreal Abakah and 37-year-old Emmanuel Gbene, both alleged members of a syndicate targeting commercial neighborhoods.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspects were rounded up at different locations within the Akure metropolis following actionable field intelligence.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate had been terrorizing residents of Akure and bordering suburban communities through armed housebreaking and highway robbery.
Acting on credible intelligence, tactical operatives stormed the gang’s operational hideout situated within the Olufoam area of the metropolis.
During the search, officers recovered a locally made revolver designed to discharge four rounds of live ammunition.
In addition to the firearm, the police team retrieved a laptop computer, motorcycle side mirrors, a vehicle registration plate, and assorted criminal charms.
Investigators stated that the suspects have confessed to their participation in several armed robberies carried out across the state capital.
“Their alleged confessions and the recovered exhibits are currently being subjected to further investigation to establish the full extent of their criminal activities and diligent prosecution,” Jimoh stated.
According to updates monitored via Punch, detectives have intensified operations to locate and apprehend remaining members of the criminal cell.
