FMC Abeokuta worker sexually assaults student nurses from the Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences, prompting intense outrage over reports that hospital authorities plan to transfer the accused staff member to an annex facility to shield him from formal disciplinary action.
The facility in question, the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, is reportedly considering redeploying the employee, identified as Ajayi Adebowale Alaba, to its Joga-Orile outreach station following grave allegations of non-consensual sexual contact.
Sources familiar with internal deliberations said the planned reassignment has alarmed healthcare staff, who warn that moving the worker could obstruct an impartial inquiry into the reported violations.
According to administrative informants, the Head of Nursing Services (HNS) at the institution is allegedly coordinating the logistics of the redeployment to Joga Orile Health Center, an annex operationalized under the federal center.
“The report getting to me now is that the HNS, FMC Abeokuta, is planning to transfer the staff member, Mr. Ajayi Adebowale Alaba, to Joga-Orile, which is an FMC annex, just to cover up the atrocities the said man has committed,” a whistleblowing source stated.
FMC Abeokuta Worker Sexually Assaults Student Nurses: The Two Detailed Petitions
The scandal originated from formal complaints filed by the Student Union Government (SUG) of the Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences, submitted directly to the Medical Director on September 25, 2026.
The petition was jointly endorsed by Comrade Odedoyin M.A., Senate President Senator Muhammed A.S., and Deputy Senate President Senator Agemo A., alongside copies forwarded to the College Provost.
According to the official student complaint, the traumatic episodes occurred within the Male Medical Ward during night postings on September 23 and 24, 2026.
The first documented complaint was lodged by Okonkwo Goodness Chinecherem, who stated she was resting during an authorized duty break on September 24 when the male porter approached her.
The grievance document revealed that the worker touched her buttocks without permission before attempting digital vaginal penetration, leaving her terrified and severely traumatized within the hospital ward.
A second petition, submitted by trainee Aminu Olulabikunmi, outlined an incident from September 23 when she was offered a rest bed by the same porter because no designated resting stations were available.
Aminu reported that while asleep, the porter climbed beside her, pulled a cloth over her frame, and initiated inappropriate physical advances before she abruptly woke up and fled the room.
As documented in investigative reporting by SaharaReporters, union leadership stressed that clinical environments must remain secure, harassment-free training zones for young healthcare professionals.
Accused Staff Cites Psychiatric Evaluations Amidst Cover-Up Fears
When questioned regarding the sexual violation claims and the potential Joga-Orile reassignment, Ajayi offered disjointed explanations rather than an outright refutation.
The accused staff member indicated that he had been instructed by hospital superiors to consult psychiatric personnel to evaluate health complications.
“Actually, it is something that… I can’t say it. It has not happened either. But I don’t even know. Sir, I don’t even know, to God who made me. Those girls have their destinies; I can’t lie against them,” Ajayi admitted in an ambiguous response.
He subsequently acknowledged that administrative transfers to the Joga-Orile health unit were discussed, though industrial strikes had delayed clinical appointments.
“They are working on it very soon because I wanted to see the consultant of that place, but I never saw the consultant because of the strike,” he affirmed, clarifying that the consultant in question is a psychiatrist.
Civil society groups and nursing associations are demanding an open judicial hearing, insisting that transferring the accused to another public clinic endangers other trainees and subverts justice.
Stakeholders continue to call upon federal health authorities to immediately suspend the accused employee pending an exhaustive, independent criminal probe by law enforcement agencies.
