Viral clips revealing officers and suspected cultists celebrating outside the renovated police post in Rivers State.

A shocking Rivers police DPO cultist scandal has resulted in severe disciplinary actions within the Rivers State Police Command. The controversy erupted on Friday following viral social media footage that allegedly showed suspected members of a notorious local cult group throwing a lavish celebration inside a freshly renovated police outpost in Abuloma.

The men, reportedly dressed in the red and white signature colors of the Vikings cult, claimed to have entirely financed and facilitated the renovation of the government facility.

In response, the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, immediately issued a severe query and formally relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Abuloma Division from his duties. The Divisional Officer directly overseeing the specific outpost has also been suspended pending a full-scale internal investigation.

Police Command Responds to the Outrage

Command spokesperson ASP Blessing Agabe released a swift and condemning statement to address the public outrage. The spokesperson emphasized that law enforcement institutions must never serve as platforms for criminal organizations seeking legitimacy or public validation.

  • Zero Tolerance Policy: CP Adepoju reiterated that the command maintains strict zero tolerance for any police action that undermines public trust or associates with unlawful groups.
  • Investigating the Finances: Investigators are actively tracing the source of the renovation funds to verify if the suspected cultists truly bankrolled the project.
  • Approval Protocols: The probe will explicitly determine if the suspended officers sought or obtained any official approval before allowing private citizens to modify a state security facility.

The command clarified that while community support for police infrastructure is generally welcomed, it absolutely cannot compromise police independence. They stressed that accepting financial assistance or physical renovations does not grant anyone immunity from subsequent criminal investigations or legal prosecution.

The developing investigation will test the integrity of local policing structures in Rivers State. Public confidence has been shaken, raising serious concerns regarding the potential infiltration and influence of suspected cult groups over the very institutions tasked with eradicating them.
