LAGOS, NIGERIA — In a major move to enforce fair energy pricing, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has urged the public to report any MRS filling station selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) above the approved retail price of N739 per litre. This directive comes as part of the refinery’s commitment to ensuring that the recent price reductions directly benefit the Nigerian consumer.
Direct Reporting Hotline Launched
To ensure total compliance across the over 2,000 MRS outlets nationwide, the refinery has launched a dedicated hotline: 0800 123 5264. Nigerians are encouraged to call this number if they encounter any station inflating prices or attempting to create artificial scarcity. The refinery emphasized that locally refined fuel is readily available at the gantry price of N699, allowing for the retail cap of N739.
Combating Artificial Scarcity
The management warned that any attempt to manipulate supply or frustrate the current price reduction is “unpatriotic and unacceptable,” especially during the critical festive period. With a guaranteed daily output of 50 million litres, the refinery aims to stabilize the downstream market and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on expensive imported fuel.
WavesTimes Market Analysis
This is a rare example of a private refinery acting as a price regulator. By providing a direct hotline, Dangote is bypassing traditional slow-moving regulatory channels and using People Power to enforce market stability. For Nigerians, this could mean more predictable transport costs throughout the new year. Reporting for WavesTimes Business Desk.
